Day 4 (Wednesday) - Today's happiness came in the form of friends. I met up with Mayra and a few other friends for dinner at Lucille's (a delicious BBQ restaurant). We had a great time catching up...just talking a laughing and having a good time. It was good to see them (they are our baseball friends, so getting together when the season is over can sometimes get tricky).

Day 3 (Tuesday) - The yummy pizza I made brought lots of happiness. I used Trader's Joes pizza dough (one wheat, one garlic & herb) and made a BBQ chicken pizza and a sausage pizza. I had made pizza a couple weeks ago, and found working with the dough rather difficult...the whole thing really pissed me off (so much so that I didn't really think it was very good, though my parents said it was). I decided to try it again, having learned a couple things from my previous mistakes, and I was really happy with the outcome. I have learned a couple more things, that I will definitely use next time...it's a work in progress.

Happiness...Day 2 (Monday) - Yesterday, I was happy to be decorating the Christmas tree. I always have fun going through and seeing the decorations. There are still some we have from years ago, but most are pretty recent...we've gotten a lot of new ornaments in the last 3-4 years. I love buying new ornaments. It also made me happy...and laughing hysterically, when Cole B. started barking at the beanie baby sized Pluto with antlers...TOO FUNNY!!

"The rules are that for 4 days you have to post something that made you happy that day. Tag 4 people to do the same."

I was tagged by [info]laney895 and am rather happy about is since I haven't really been posting much for over a year. I'm not going to tag anyone since I don't know if anyone is still reading my journal, but if you feel like participating, by all means, join in!!

Day 1 (Sunday - I'm going to post about the previous day since I generally post from work...and that's not where the happiness is): The blanket I knit for my grandma for Christmas is done. I blocked it (washed and stretched it into shape) Thursday and just pulled it up yesterday and I'm so pleased with how it turned out. I'm also happy that we got out tree up, not yet decorated, but just looking at the lighted tree all day made me happy.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In October I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points). Last Wednesday I helped [info]rickenbacker across the street (6 points). Last month I farted in an elevator (-6 points). In May I ruled Iran as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points). In April I invaded Iraq, broke it, and couldn't glue it back together before Mom got home (-1012 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-1711 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,
lovethosehalos

Truthfully, my journal isn't "truly" friends only...I make a lot of generic posts that I don't care about, but anything that I put any real feeling into is for the most part "friend only" at this point. So if you think we have common interests and that you'd like to read my journal, just comment here. Plus, I didn't want to waste this beautiful "Friends Only" banner!!

My little man Cole B. Jack has finally come home.

playing with a loofa dog 9/12/08

We spent the weekend getting acquainted with one another and trying (a little) to prepare him for being alone all day. Cole B. comes from Bakersfield, CA…where it is HOT all summer, there are also lots of dogs…so there is no grass. The first thing we did when we got home was plop him on the front yard. This, being a completely new sensation, led to lots of laughs as he tried to lift his little legs over the grass with each step. He, of course, started biting at it and quickly came to enjoy running around in it. The second hurdle, so to speak, were the front steps (we have 3 stairs up to the porch). The first time he hopped up on the step, he proceeded to try to go around my mom's foot and found himself back on the ground as he fell off. He is now quite proficient at hopping up and down the stairs.

After getting him home, I was hungry, so I got a sandwich and put him in "puppy jail", a playpen we got to keep him in during the day. He HATED it!! He started yiping so loud you would have thought someone was torturing him. After a little work at it, he spent the day there yesterday without incident, though he still protests when I leave. I also decided that since there may be times when I get home late, I didn't want him sleeping in my bed…especially as it is very high off the ground (though he has already jumped off twice). Crate training it was. The first night it was torture for both of us. He yiped and cried nearly constantly until after 2 am. The next night, I put him in and turned off all the lights and left the room, hoping he would fall alseep. Nothing doing, he again yiped and cried, only this time, when I went back in the room, laid down and he could hear me breathing, he quieted right down. We got up once or twice to go to the potty, but otherwise it was pretty uneventful. The last 2 nights, to my surprise, he has slept the whole night in the crate without needing to get up to go potty. We go right before bedtime and as soon as he gets up in the morning, but throughout the night, there is not a peep heard from him.

I have had a couple of dogs in my lifetime, the last puppy we had came to live with us when I was about 10 and lived 17 years, so I don't remember much of the puppy training and experience, but I simply couldn't be happier with Cole B. He certainly tries my temper at times, as he's started biting clothes and hair, but I look at his adorable little face, especially when he's sleeping (and totally peaceful) and my heart practically bursts…it's just amazing how quickly we can fall in love.

Let sleeping puppies lie )

Tomorrow is P-Day, the day that I go up and pick up Cole B. Jack and bring him home. I am extremely excited and can't wait to have this little guy join the family. I am hoping that it will be a smooth transition for him, but I'm sure that it will be a difficult weekend. This will be the first time I have had a puppy to take care of, by myself. When we had our last puppy we had, Petie, I was only about 9 when we got him, so I don't really remember much of his puppyhood. This time around it will be me a Cole B. and I'm a little worried that he will spend the entire weekend crying...though I definitely hope that is not the case. Wish me luck. =o)
